Project description:
I love drawing portraits because of the uniqueness within each one and its subtleties. Each face has its own story to tell, and I want to show that in my art. When I draw, it’s not just about copying how someone looks. I want to capture the feelings and experiences in every line and shadow. The tryptic shows the differences in emotion in each, where it starts happy and turns more serious.PROCESS: Each piece was created using Castle Arts colored pencils and was drawn on 14x17 Strathmore drawing paper. My restrictions were to limit myself to three main colors, so each was drawn using a maximum of 8 pencils. Two portraits followed a split complementary color scheme, while the other followed a triad color scheme. I was worried it would turn into a muddy mess with the nature of using unnatural colors, but I avoided this by layering the right colors in the spots using color theory.
